By the time i enter my last word, the crowd must have already swamped the stage in anticipation. it's the fourth year JAM 88.3's celebrating this event but yet it seems all new to me. so is this the pop version of "fete dela musique"?

oh now i remember... and last year's was held at metrowalk. I remember sandwich even delivered an encore performance with Gloc 9 then!
the lineup is just plain crazy! no doubt about the credibility of these artists. just seeing taken by cars and pedicab in the list already spells PARTAAYY!!! so get off your seats and dance your way to ezwood!

JUAN DELA CRUZ WITH PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA
taken from wallygonzales.comThe Rock n' Roll gods have heard our prayers and answered it with another Juan Dela Cruz Band concert now featuring the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO). They'll be headlining for the show, “Fiesta ng Musikang Filipino”.
It features Sugarfree and Up Dharma Down on May 2, Radioactive Sago Project and The Jerks on May 3, Sinosikat and The Dawn on May 4 at the CCP Main Theater. Each band’s set culminates with an OPM song musically arranged with the MPO and performances by violinist Lucia Micarelli and the Juan dela Cruz Band. The shows start at 7 p.m

BAMBOO IN SINGAPORE
I was in Singapore a couple of weeks ago and I picked up a mini-magazine for free. Hoping I would just find out about hot spots or mere interesting facts about the country, I browsed through it. To my surprise it featured BAMBOO in it. Just so you could experience how Singaporeans know much about Pinoy Music i'll post it here.

Bamboo are very much a band in own right. They rocked hard at Asean Rocks at Hard Rock Cafe, and I got up close with the band just hours before the show to chat with singer Bamboo Manalac and guitarist Ira Vurz about their upcoming album, worldwide tour and the fans.
You formed Bamboo in 2002, four years after leaving Rivermaya at the height of their sucess. Was there initially any pressure to emulate what you have achieved with Rivermaya?
Bamboo: No, there was no pressure at all. We just wanted to make music.
Did the 4 years you spent in the US change the way you made music?
Bamboo: Yeah, going ther changed me in every aspect. When I was there I went to school, I worked, you know, I changed. I gained a lot of experiences and I guess it did.
Your debut album As the Music Plays was a great success. In your second album, Light Peace Love, you experimented with new styles. What reaction came from those who expected something similar to your first album?
Ira: We did the album without any expectations. We were just happy with what we had. We were sort of consumed b the music you know, the songwriting began to dictate how this albumwould be like, and it all began to fit together.
Bamboo: I always thought the Light Peace Love was like a diary of what we went through during the year after the first album. It was a diary of our musical lives. The best thing that happened with this album is that it opened up to a bigger audience. With As the Music Plays we got people who were hooked on to that sound, and then got hooked on Light Peace Love as well, and we ended up with a bigger audience.
Ira: Including people who wouldn't normally listen to rock.
Bamboo: Yeah, so we were opening the doors to that.
Would you say that you guys were evolving?
Bamboo: I can't say that we were evolving. We kept going and continued to push ourselves to create new material. When we got bored we know that it's time to pack it up. We just keep the fire going.
Is a third album on the way?
Bamboo: It's on the way. We are recording it in Manila actually. It's called We Stand Alone Together.
What can we expect from the fourth-coming album?
Bamboo: We can expect...
Ira: ...a lot of things thrown into a pot.
Bamboo: (laughs) Yeah, the third album is the ending, the footnote of the first three albums, which are like a trilogy. From this point we move on and maybe evolve. Then maybe we will try, for the next album, to change gears. I think for this album we threw in everything including the kitchen sink.
You have coming tours?
Bamboo: We'll be in Bahrain, Australia, USA and Canada.
Is it important to give Filipino identity and feel to your music when you perform in front of your audiences?
Bamboo: I don't see that, because I think our music is universal. Like when we were in LA, people didn't see that, they only found out we were Filipino after the show. Just like here in Sinapore, we play a gig and we're just artists sharing our music. It's encouraging because I never imagined we were playing in Singapore, Dubai, Bahrain or Thailand. We're just happy playing good music. Now with the help of the internet, the interest is getting bigger.
Is there any country where you have always wanted to perform?
Ira: Well, I wanna go to Europe though (laughs). Actually I just wanna SEE Europe.
Bamboo: Yeah, actually, UK.
Bamboo's singing style has often been compared to Rob Thomas...
Bamboo: Seriously?
That's what I've heard. What are the band's major influences?
Bamboo: Well, it's not Rob Thomas (laughs). I personally have a lot, it ranges.
I listen to a lot of different things. Right now I'm listening to Ryan Adam's Gold and Heartbreaker and a little of Green Day's American Idiot. I can't wait to get the new Norah Jones CD.
In your song "Much Has Been Said", I noticed that the last few lines "You say/ I only hear what I want to/ You say/ I talk all the ime" is from the song Stay by Lisa Loeb. Is she also one of your influences?
Bamboo: No, we were just messing around. When we play live, sometimes at the end of our sons we mix in a different song, and that was the idea behind that. But that bit us in our ass because what happened was Universal came looking for us and they wanted some money for it, so that sucked. If I knew, we wouldn't have put that there.
Ira: Now she gets a cut from everything we do.
Bamboo: From the CD actually.
Ira: Does she even need the money?
You have been a great pleasure to interview. I have one last question. In all of your travels so far, have there been any bizarre stories involving your fans?
Bamboo: They're pretty much all the same. They're all great... Singapore's been pretty interesting actually.
Ira: The last time we were here we walked back to out hotel from a gig at Fort Canning and ome of the fans just walked with us all the way to the hotel.
Bamboo: After the gig we walked back to our hotel, we freshened up and then we went to eat. When we went to eat we saw that the same set of fans were eating at the same place.
They waited for you?
Bamboo: No it was by sheer coincidence.
Did you speak to them?
Bamboo: It was great, just catching up with fans. Yeah, it's a small country (laughs).
Ira: Singapore has been great man.
Bamboo: We can't wait to come back.

BAGUIO MUSIC SCENE
Coming from a three day vacation, I spent the long weekend in Baguio with my family. Just right to get away from the exhausting environment of the ciudad, not to mention the summer heat that's been going on.
We usually frequent "the summer capital" but I've never experienced music there. I mean, I've been to the folk houses where they cover Simon&Garfunkel to Neil Young. Impressive but part of me wants to get the real thing. I wanna go to some place where musicians do there thing and not just do creative cover songs. I know there is in Baguio because they produced Session Road, who has caught our ears since 1999. Having recorded three albums is no easy feat in this kind of industry. Then in 2006, Redhorse Muziklaban awarded the boys of Hard Boiled Eggz as the champions for that year. Representing Bagiuo with their alternative/metal/screamo sound they bested among 5 other bands from all over the nation in the final round for that title. Also in that year we got acquainted to the sound of The SpaceFlower Show, offering us a different taste with ska music.
These three are definitely not the only ones creating havoc with their music Up North, which is why if you have any info about bars in Baguio where they serve appetizing new music. Please let me know and don't be a selfish fan. hahahahaha! no seriously, please let me know.

I made an old review before about a local indie artist formerly known as COCOLULU, but who is now settled to the name SPAZZ KID.This is the old review:
Cocolulu - i don't remember how i ended up in his myspace site but im glad i did! this guy really knows how to make music and use the synthesizers! i've never heard anything this inspiring from the electronica local scene except for drip. although i can still see some improvements, im sure cocolulu will make waves in the future as the local music scene has still a lot of room for growth.

It's been a while since I first heard of SPAZZ KID. That day I found myself following his music, i wrote a short post on my lj about how his sound would be part of the future of the music scene back when we haven't heard of taken by cars, bagetsafonik, etc. Judging from the way his chiptune music sounds he is heavily influenced by video game soundtracks. Armed with his toy keyboards and synths, his music is more accessible than ever as you can now see him play in gigs around the metro. He's also created remixes and mash-ups for ang bandang shirley, taken by cars, etc. other projects he's been known for is his collaborative effort with EGGBOY (Diego Mapa).

CHICOSCI + TAKEN BY CARS
I've never heard Miggy's voice sound so clean in his live performances until now. I'm not a hater but I just think he loses his voice most of the time in their gigs, which led me to that comment. But hearing this, this song (Beating Hearts Baby) fits perfectly for him. Ngayon ko lang nakita tong vid na to and I wish i was there that night.

SUPERBANDS
Project1's infectious single have created a lot of buzz and intrigues among followers of the local music scene. questions have been raised but it was only until they released a video when this superband's members have been named. their entry to the music scene came off like a wildfire. and now we all know who they are, the world can sit back, relax, enjoy the music and calmly say "ang sarap dito".

i guess it wasn't until Project1 that superbands have created much hype among the public. There have been a few who've shared their music to us that are worth mentioning and one of them is Cambio. They've had 2 albums under their name and Cambio of course took their superband status to another level in their latest video Pasaway. The concept was that each member of the band appeared with their other respective bands. Members are: Kris Gorra-Dancel on vox, Diego Mapa on guitars, Ebe Dancel on guitars, Buddy Zabala on bass and Raimund Marasigan on drums.

I wouldn't know if you would consider Pedicab under this category but nevertheless they're still worth mentioning. With Diego Mapa on vox, Jason Caballa on guitars, RA Rivera on visuals and multimedia, Raimund Marasigan on keyboard synths and Mike Dizon on drums, these guys are due for their sophomore album. I just heard their single this week which probably means that they're at the end of their recording or waiting for its release.
Another one is The Bitter Pill. They haven't been so active recently and I have no news about them. no myspace page but they have a yahoogroups, but still news about them there either. Nevertheless, they still fit into this section. VINCE NOIR PROJECT
Stepping off from the MRT, I was on my way to take the LRT2 to go home when I decided to stop by the record bar first. I was just there to let time pass when I saw a CD of Vince Noir Project stacked on the racks. It was unexpected as I never heard or saw this coming. I know they're already being played on the radio but this, this is just great. I bought the CD but I haven't listened to it... hehehe!I just wanna show love to the band by telling to the whole world about their debut album!

Project 1 - Ang Sarap Dito
last week i was listening to the radio and heard this unfamiliar song echoing from the speakers of my car. i haven't been tuning on to the radio lately so i was intrigued when i heard this. I thought it was Sandwich because I recognized the voice of Raimnud Marasigan but I still wasn't sure because the music sounded different from the Sandwich we all know. The song ended and the DJ credited it to "Project1" which was entitled "Ang Sarap Dito".
Once I got my hands on the PC, I immediately searched for the song in the net. I googled "ang sarap dito project1 myspace"", hoping it would have been on myspace already but no luck. I pressed in the same keywords but this time without the word "myspace" but to no avail I only got links to articles about it. I clicked one and it directed me to ABANTE ONLINE (no kidding). I read that the DJs of various radio stations have no information about the song or artist and it was a mystery waiting to be solved. All they can share is that people are getting more and more intrigued about this issue and so am I.
So today, I was randomly browsing through videos when I found that they have released their video for the song. So here it is. Enjoi!

CHICOSCI: SNY LVN
To those who saw Superbad, NO this is not about Sonny (Mc)Lovin'. YES, this is about Sonny. I believe that this is old news to all the blood seekers out there but I just recently found out that Sonny Baquisal has left the band due to family reasons. This unfortunate situation has been out in the public since October 31, 2007 as dated in their multiply site. The following lines is the post from the other axeman."Dear Kids,
We are still reeling from the depression that is known as S.N.Y.L.V.N.(Sny's leaving). He has been our brother for the past 8 years, and we've been partners in crime in guitar and six-string antics ever since. We have still not come to grips with the fact that we've lost another member to the first world.(haha. i keed). But then again, life must go on. Let us all wish THE one and only SONNY BAQUISAL all the luck in the world. Tiniis niya ng 8 years ang layo ng family niya to be with his vampire brothers. And now even his wife is there, and collectively, we think it's just the right time for him to reunite with his loved ones in a very lovely place called ITALY. He has shared with all of us 1 million percent of his blood sweat and tears, and he deserves a proper goodbye. The song last look is now dedicated to him, and shall be announced on NU. We miss him already.

THE 14TH NU ROCK AWARDS: BAMBOO BAGS 6 OF THE 15 AWARDS

Colorful confetti rained down on the quartet of Bamboo Manalac, Ira Cruz, Nathan Azarcon and Vic Mercado—collectively known as Bamboo—last November 30 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, officially concluding the 14th NU 107 Rock Awards.
The climactic ending was a fitting salute to a band that has achieved commercial success while staying loyal to their artistic vision. Gathering six out of the 15 awards, Bamboo proved that they are this year's best among the lot of diverse acts that rocked the scene in 2007.
SINOSIKAT IS NOW SIKAT. But while Bamboo's triumph was an expected scenario, this year's edition of the rock awards was also full of surprises, particularly in the Vocalist of the Year category. Sinosikat's soulful front woman Kat Agarrado bagged the coveted individual award, affirming her reputation as one of the most promising vocalists to emerge from the local underground to mainstream consciousness.
Winning the title was certainly far from easy. This year, Kat was pitted against the likes of Marc Abaya of Kjwan, Sugarfree's Ebe Dancel, Miggy Chavez of Chicosci, Steve Badiola of emo darlings Typecast and Bamboo Mañalac. Most people inside the venue and fellow artists agreed with the outcome and applauded Kat louldy as she went up the stage to accept the plum.
Best New Artist aptly went to the punk trio of Hilera. Typecast also pulled off their own surprise by notching the Song of the Year award through the single, "Will You Ever Learn," beating other favorites like Bamboo's "Tatsulok," "Sundo" by Imago and Sinosikat's "Turning My Safety Off."
The Hall of Fame Award for 2007 goes to brothers Angelo and Mike Villegas of the ‘90s pop-rock duo, Rizal Underground. Although they disbanded a long time ago, the duo remains active in the music scene by composing songs or doing guitar sessions for other artists.
SIDE DRAMA. Despite their status as a non-functioning unit, Orange & Lemons still managed to hoist a last hurrah as the band clinched the prestigious Album of the Year award for the psychedelic-pop infused record, Moonlane Gardens. Animosity between the members, however, was still evident as only guitarist-vocalist Clem de Castro claimed the award in behalf of his estranged band mates. Mcoy Fundales, the band's former vocalist, was there at the venue but did not join Clem in accepting the award. It will remembered that Mcoy had just gotten out of the Pinoy Big Brother house where he stayed as one of the celebrity housemates.
The award for Best Album Packaging was also bestowed to Moonlane Gardens, with Clem and graphic artist Sarah Gaugler sharing the credits.

Colorful confetti rained down on the quartet of Bamboo Manalac, Ira Cruz, Nathan Azarcon and Vic Mercado—collectively known as Bamboo—last November 30 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, officially concluding the 14th NU 107 Rock Awards.
The climactic ending was a fitting salute to a band that has achieved commercial success while staying loyal to their artistic vision. Gathering six out of the 15 awards, Bamboo proved that they are this year's best among the lot of diverse acts that rocked the scene in 2007.
SINOSIKAT IS NOW SIKAT. But while Bamboo's triumph was an expected scenario, this year's edition of the rock awards was also full of surprises, particularly in the Vocalist of the Year category. Sinosikat's soulful front woman Kat Agarrado bagged the coveted individual award, affirming her reputation as one of the most promising vocalists to emerge from the local underground to mainstream consciousness.
Winning the title was certainly far from easy. This year, Kat was pitted against the likes of Marc Abaya of Kjwan, Sugarfree's Ebe Dancel, Miggy Chavez of Chicosci, Steve Badiola of emo darlings Typecast and Bamboo Mañalac. Most people inside the venue and fellow artists agreed with the outcome and applauded Kat louldy as she went up the stage to accept the plum.
Best New Artist aptly went to the punk trio of Hilera. Typecast also pulled off their own surprise by notching the Song of the Year award through the single, "Will You Ever Learn," beating other favorites like Bamboo's "Tatsulok," "Sundo" by Imago and Sinosikat's "Turning My Safety Off."
The Hall of Fame Award for 2007 goes to brothers Angelo and Mike Villegas of the ‘90s pop-rock duo, Rizal Underground. Although they disbanded a long time ago, the duo remains active in the music scene by composing songs or doing guitar sessions for other artists.
SIDE DRAMA. Despite their status as a non-functioning unit, Orange & Lemons still managed to hoist a last hurrah as the band clinched the prestigious Album of the Year award for the psychedelic-pop infused record, Moonlane Gardens. Animosity between the members, however, was still evident as only guitarist-vocalist Clem de Castro claimed the award in behalf of his estranged band mates. Mcoy Fundales, the band's former vocalist, was there at the venue but did not join Clem in accepting the award. It will remembered that Mcoy had just gotten out of the Pinoy Big Brother house where he stayed as one of the celebrity housemates.
The award for Best Album Packaging was also bestowed to Moonlane Gardens, with Clem and graphic artist Sarah Gaugler sharing the credits.

the album is finally done! 15 songs. no zaido is not included. but emi might include it as abonus for early copies. thats MIGHT INCLUDE ok. in any case well find a way to realease that song so dont fret.
well try to get it released early next year. now we have to finish the album cover, make thevideo, rehearse the songs and whatnot. still a lot of work but were pretty pleased with the cd. ive been playing the 2nd master this morning. were just waitng for the rest ofthe band's finalchanges or comments. well keep you posted.

RIVERMAYA: BAGONG LIWANAG
There's a lot of truth to the latest EP released by Rivermaya. And with the recently concluded auditions, they have indeed found a new light in the shape of Jayson Fernandez. Hailing all the way from Manguisoc, Camarines Norte, this 18year old teen has impressed the judges enough to fill in the spot voided by Rico Blanco. I never really got to follow the events in studio 23 but from the glimpses I saw, I was rooting for Michelle. I haven't really heard her voice or compositions but judging from her pictures I think she's pretty enough to charm the public in voting her. hehehe! (c'mon.. everybody loves a rock chick! :P) But seriously, going back I believe that they have assembled noteworthy judges for this competition which really singled out the best person to complement the kind of direction Rivermaya is headed to. So congratulations to Jayson Fernandez for being part of the rich history of Rivermaya!With the lack of knowledge in the events of competition, I dug out some information to figure out what really transpired on the monumental day. According to the band's website, it did not go uncontested as arch-rival Hans Dimayuga, 19, a senior from Dela Salle University garnered the most number of text votes and got the judges approval for best original song.
Jayson dropped to the floor when Rivermaya co-manager, Lizza G. Nakpil, exclaimed, I'm going for a leap of faith --- so, Jayson, we love you! Welcome to Rivermaya!
It has only been a couple weeks since Jayson and over 500 other hopefuls gathered at UP for the initial stage of the audition. But now, he joins the Banda ng Bayan that he only used to see in pictures, hear from the radio, and see from their music videos. His message to others who want to make it big, "Ang gusto ko lang paratingin sa lahat ay wag mag-give-up sa iyong dream. May nag-text sa akin na kaibigan na naniniwala siya na kaya kong maging part ng Rivermaya, so naglakas-loob akong sumali. Ang sinabi ko sa sarili ko, walang mawawala naman sa akin at kung matalo, at least may picture ako na kasama sila."

URBANDUB: 4TH ALBUM
Last time I watched a gig was when I saw these guys, it was in RJ Bar and it was a couple of months back. They sampled two fresh cuts from the fourth album and three from Embrace. Out of the two tracks, i enjoyed "when the fight is over". not sure about the title but it's something like that.

"Udub's 4th album... 90% done and it's now in printing process! =) The other 10% left is just finalizing details on the album inlay, printing the final design, packing it inside those jewel cases and it will be ready to go. November is the target month of release. I'm so happy to announce that we have survived the hardest part on making this album. =)
Our 1st single, "GUILLOTINE", is recently on NU107's Stairway to Seven. Hope you'll all help in making it stay on the chart by texting NUVOTE GUILLOTINE and send it to 29107. We're done shooting the video for this and the premiere will be shown anytime this month.
Currently, we're back in Cebu for All Soul's Day. We asked for an extended stay to relax; calm down a bit 'coz last month has been so exhausting. We will start practicing our new songs next week so that when we get back there in Manila, we can promote it ALL THE WAY. ;p

"dear kids
im happy to announce that we have finished recording the album! today we recorded electric piano, some vocals and nylon acoustic guitars. diego cas who just got back from new york sang a lot of falsettos and mong as a tribute to the blood brothers (breaking up) screamed a lot. myrene did a lot of picture taking while i took a nap.
buddy presided over much of the proceedings and shinji engineered and pro tooled.
mike asked to be left behind in mindanao to visit his wife Kathy in gensan. he will join us in a few days.
meanwhile everybody takes a well deserved break and shinji will mix the album.
now we drink some beers to celebrate. cheers!
